Compostable stretch wrap from Australian food waste

Great Wrap is on a mission to remove the 150,000 tonnes of plastic stretch wrap sent to Australia’s landfill each year. A $535,000 grant from the Advanced Manufacturing Growth Centre will help them to do just that.

The Client

After launching the world’s first certified compostable stretch wrap in 2020, Victorian company Great Wrap engaged with Monash University to develop a process to convert Australian food waste into marine biodegradable bioplastics.

Now the team is working to swiftly translate this research to a commercial-scale operation to displace the use of petroleum-based plastic in supply chains. To fast track the project, Great Wrap was eager to obtain a mix of strategic investor funding and non-dilutive government grants.

The Solution

Great Wrap engaged Intellect Labs in an ongoing Grant Strategy role. This type of partnership allows us to continually assess grant opportunities in the context of Great Wrap’s rapidly developing project pipeline. We then work together to prepare robust and competitive applications.

We worked with the Great Wrap team to prepare an application under the Advanced Manufacturing Growth Centre’s (AMGC) Commercialisation Fund. This included scoping a project within the AMGC’s criteria, preparing the Application Form and working with Great Wrap and the AMGC throughout the assessment process.

The Result

Great Wrap received $535,000 in Federal funding from the AMGC to commercialise the biopolymer technology – the company’s second Federal Government grant in two years.

The funding award is a testament to Great Wrap’s clever team, bias for action and strategic approach to the government funding landscape. We can’t wait to see what they do next!
